Air Balancing

Is your conditioned space “Air Balanced”?

Custom Service & Maintenance will ensure you system is delivering you a perfect, even climate in your home or office space.

If your home or office has a ducted heating or cooling system it is essential to have the air balanced correctly across all rooms.
Custom Service & Maintenance will attend your home or office and carry out an “Air Balance” to ensure your cooling or heating system is perfectly balanced.
What does an "Air Balance" involve?

If you haven’t had your air balanced, or the building’s structure or configuration has changed eg. moving walls, removing walls or doors, then it is more than likely that you are experiencing temperature fluctuation between areas of the conditioned space.

You may notice that some rooms may be hotter or colder than the desired temperature you have set on your thermostat (controller).

Our technicians will:

  • Measure the airflow prior to the re-balance from all supply air points with a device called an “Air hood” (see main image).
  • Map the layout of duct work onto a plan and record the “Air Balance” results.
  • Open or close the airflow dampers in each area until the temperature is the same in all rooms/sections of your conditioned space.

Once our technicians are confident that they have achieved an “even” temperature throughout the space they will:

  • Lock off and mark each damper to the correct position and record the amended results on your duct work layout plans.
  • Check the calibration of your thermostat to ensure that it is accurately reading the temperature.
  • Attempt to re-calibrate the sensing probe in your thermostat if it is not accurately reading the temperature.*
  • Check the location of your thermostat to ensure it is in the most suitable position.

* If this fails, our technician will provide you with a quote to replace the thermostat.

Is your thermostat in the right position?

Your thermostat needs to accurately determine the temperature in your conditioned space.  In order to do this it should not be placed near an object that may project hot or cold air and as a result influence the temperature reading.  Such objects may be windows, printers, refrigerators or photocopiers.

If our technician believes that the thermostat is in the wrong location, and it can be moved to a more suitable location within the space, they will relocate it with your approval.
